What is the Arqus Café?

Arqus Café is a virtual place for you: a student from any one of the Arqus universities who is learning a foreign language (one of the languages offered) and would like to use this language outside the environment of the classroom. It is a virtual meeting place that can be easily accessed from anywhere.

The idea of a language café is to give you the opportunity to informally broaden your language and cultural knowledge by speaking with other learners under the guidance of a native speaker (not a language teacher) who will lead the meetings on a voluntary basis.

Please have in mind this is not a language course, but a place to practise a language. For this reason we recommend that you have some prior knowledge in the target language.

For more information, please read the document Information Students available to be downloaded.

So grab your cup of coffee and join us!

If you want to participate in an Arqus Café, you need to sign up first.

To do this, please send us an email using preferably your university email address.

We will need your full name, your university and the language you would like to practice.

Each language café has a specific link which will be used for all of the meetings. Please make sure to save the link for the upcoming meetings.

If the language you chose is offered twice a week, please send us the day you would like to participate in.

The meeting room will be closed 20 minutes after the scheduled time if there is no participants that day.

Where will the meetings take place?

The meetings will take place via the video conferencing platform ZOOM.

ZOOM is a software used for online meetings and needs to be previously installed in your computador so you can participate in the meetings.

If you have never used ZOOM, you can follow the instructions under Documents to download.

You will receive the link to join the meetings per email after you sign up for the language café you want to participate in.

Online Tandem Language

If you want to practise a language with a native speaker and at the same time want to help this person with your own native language, you might be interested in having a Tandem partner.

Tandem is a form of open and autonomous learning in which people with different native languages work together in pairs. It is mainly about acquiring communicative and cultural skills.
