The Ph.D. programme offers support to postgraduate students in material and non-material ways.
The non-material support is based on the individual and intensive supervision of the student's Ph.D. project on a high academic standard. The student's integration into international and interdisciplinary networks of research is especially emphasised which is why the Ph.D. programme is designed to credit presentations of the student's work in national and international panels. Beyond the courses within the Ph.D. programme, acquiring language skills is credited as well.
Moreover, the Ph.D. programme highlights training in research methodologies and research methods – systematical-comparative and historical-comparative techniques of analysis are significant. The opportunity to gain teaching experience at the university is also provided. As a matter of course, the experience shall not interfere with the student's Ph.D. project. Rather, it shall foster the project's progress since it is indicated by several studies that teaching experience facilitates an academic career.
The material support consists of a scholarship which is usually granted for 24 to 36 months. The scholarship includes an amount for basic expenses of €1000 p.m. and an amount for material expenses of €103 p.m. Parents additionally receive €400 p.m. for the first and €100,00 p.m. for every other child.
